Adder (Vipera berus)

I found this beautiful creature whilst on a forest walk close to Watchet in Somerset, England. Unlike the grass-snakes I have seen that slide off rapidly this Adder stayed still for the three seconds it took me to take the picture at which point it was me who moved away slowly so as not to disturb it. I'm not in a hurry to be bitten by any venomous creature. I skipped all the way back to our caravan.

Taken with a Canon 600D and Canon 100mm macro lens and Marumi Flash.
