Snake fly (Raphidia xanthostigma)

I was intrigued how strange this creature is and to find one of these during my lunchbreak at Stoneleigh Park was amazing. This is the only one I have ever seen and more by luck. It has an elongated neck that give it the snake like looks. I keep looking but not found another yet. As you can see it is like a lot of insects in going under leaves rather than on top of them. Quite sensible really.

Taken with a Canon 600D and Canon 100mm macro lens and Marumi Flash.
