Lacewing (Libelloides ictericus)

This stunningly beautiful lacewing from the a group of insects called 'ascalaphids' is just one of several superficially similar species with slightly different wing markings. I took this picture on a small rough meadow in Menorca but there was a swarm of them over a field of grain that I walk past days later. They are very fast fliers and do not stay still too long when they know you are around.
