Oil beetle (Meloe proscarabaeus)

Now that's what you call a beetle. This is a female and a fine specimen too. Adults are plant eaters as can be seen here. They have very conspicuous antennae that look rather beaded. Another exciting find by my wife Barb while in Menorca. This is one for Pam & Derek.
